Mentzendorff Kümmel is a distinctive caraway-based digestif liqueur with a rich history dating back to 1823, originally produced near Riga, Latvia. It was introduced to the British market by Ludwig Mentzendorff in the 1850s and is now made at the historic Combier Distillery in the Loire Valley, France, using the original recipe and copper stills designed by Gustave Eiffel.

The production begins with the maceration of caraway seeds in a mixture of neutral alcohol and water. After a 12-hour infusion, the mixture is steam-distilled over seven hours, separating the heart of the spirit from the heads and tails to ensure a clean, aromatic profile. The final distillate is then blended with sugar and diluted to 38% ABV using purified water before resting in stainless steel tanks to allow the flavours to marry. Each bottle is filled and sealed by hand.
