Every practitioner of acupuncture is confronted with the same problem: how do I choose points to treat a particular patient at a particular time? For the complex conditions most often seen in Western clinics, rote prescriptions are rarely effective. Through his decades-long experience as a practitioner, Dr. Jean-Marc Kespi has returned to the ancient roots of acupuncture and developed an approach to choosing the best points for a given situation.

Dr. Kespi’s engagement with Chinese medicine led him to understand that traditional symbols, reflected in the names of points and descriptions of physiological processes, act as intermediaries between the formal rules of medicine and their manifestations in the human body. Thus his approach proceeds from symbol to a specific diagnosis and therapeutic action, and onto the insertion of a needle in a precise point on the body. In this manner he shows the practitioner how to see beyond the symptoms and address the whole person, thereby providing more effective treatments. With keen insight into the meanings of individual points, Dr. Kespi typically uses only one to three needles to treat the disequilibrium found at the root level.

In addition to laying out his ideas on the foundations of acupuncture, Dr. Kespi shares his wide experience in this book through over one-hundred case histories, which give the reader the opportunity to see how this approach actually works in the clinic.

“This is the work of a seasoned practitioner and teacher writing in his mature years, confident in his knowledge and the accuracy of his approach. … [Dr. Kespi] honors his fundamental principle throughout: to respond to the body’s needs without preconception or anticipation, searching rationally and intuitively for the best points at the moment of each treatment session.”

Reviews

"The book weaves basic concepts such as yin-yang with more complex symbolic medical concepts. Both the novice and seasoned practitioners are left with many possibilities for blending and applying the presented material. Dr. Kespi maintains throughout the book that the most effective approach is to ‘always treat the person and not the symptoms.’ The abundance of cases makes this book especially handy for practitioners interested in embracing Kespi’s unique way of doing this."
—Meridians: The Journal of Acupuncture and Oriental Medicine

"If you have ever wondered why acupuncture texts sometimes describe strange and bizarre point indications, this may be the book for you. Jean-Marc Kespi combines his 50-plus years of experience with a near-encyclopedic knowledge of point indications to provide elegant point choices for addressing practical clinical problems. He performs this apparently magical feat by moving his focus from the more superficial or anatomical protocols to the deeper symbolic meaning of the points.

[A]s a rich fount of ideas, knowledge and experience, it might be better suited for more seasoned practitioners interested in refining their techniques and taking acupuncture to a deeper level. There is no doubt that I, for one, will be opening this book repeatedly for the next little while."
—Michael Greenwood, Medical Acupuncture

Unusual, unique look for cheap.
In most ways, this is simply an inexpensive Chinese quartz watch. As a watch collector, it's simply not the kind of thing I would be interested in. But, it is unusual in good ways. It's all stainless and the case is 39mm while the lug width is 20mm which is pretty normal for a dress watch. It's powered by a Japanese quartz movement giving three hands with day/date. As one can expect at this price, the crystal is mineral glass. The bracelet is a solid link type with a butterfly clasp. I really don't like butterfly clasps but that's just me, it works okay. It has 30m water resistance. Crown is push-pull. Pretty standard stuff. Then, the uniqueness drops on you! The crystal is faceted on the outside and the light really plays on it, especially with the sunray blue dial behind that! The dial is a combination of Roman numerals in gold on the even numbers and faux diamonds at the odd hour positions. It rides the edge of gaudy without going over IMO. The bezel has scallops which also reflect light as it moves. The case is all polish. The bracelet is just as unique. It is a little loose - jingly jangly as some pretty famous brands are. The bracelet is a combination of stainless and gold tone. The individual links are very well articulated and one row of the inner sections of the bracelet actually scalloped with a curve upwards at the ends - the opposite of what you'd expect but somehow it works and the unique touches all come together. I'm not saying this is a great watch for watch collectors. But, if you're looking for a cheap dress watch that won't look like anyone else's and still has decent specs this is worth a look!

Great watch, looks good
I was worried about the watch looking too bulky and thick. It looks just right on my wrist and I have a 7 inch wrist. 10/10 watch, looks epic and was just what I wanted. Not too thick, not too thin, fits my needs perfectly.

good watch, great price, mediocre band
Accurate? Great price? it's a Casio! Not the best looker, but darn easy to read. This is a stepping stone to an "easy reader" watch, with clear numbers on a high contrast background. Easy to set, this model is a good choice for traveling back and forth across time zones. The big drawback (and likely the reason I was able to buy this watch as a return) is the watchband, which has 3 faults. The hasp is old school and it can be hard to open and close except when it opens unexpectedly. The corners of the links are not rounded, so they can bite into your wrist. And adjusting the size of the band is a PITA. All in all, I'm on the lookout for a replacement band. [I have absurdly large wrists, but still needed to remove two links. Use a super small bladed screwdriver on the band and a paperclip for the springbar at the hasp. Open the band at the hasp, find and press down on bits of spring steel until you can slide them out of the watchband, remove links, reassemble the band. I'm reasonably handy but took 10+ minutes for the task.]
