The definitive biography of Ravi Shankar, one of the most influential musicians and composers of the twentieth century, told with the cooperation of his estate, family, and friendsFor over eight decades, Ravi Shankar was India's greatest cultural ambassador. He was a groundbreaking performer and composer of Indian classical music, who brought the music and rich culture of India to the world's leading concert halls and festivals, charting the map for those who followed in his footsteps. Renowned for playing Monterey Pop, Woodstock, and the Concert for Bangladesh-and for teaching George Harrison of The Beatles how to play the sitar-Shankar reshaped the musical landscape of the 1960s across pop, jazz, and classical music, and composed unforgettable scores for movies like Pather Panchali and Gandhi. In Indian Sun: The Life and Music of Ravi Shankar, writer Oliver Craske presents readers with the first full portrait of this legendary figure, revealing the personal and professional story of a musician who influenced-and continues to influence-countless artists. Craske paints a vivid picture of a captivating, restless workaholic-from his lonely and traumatic childhood in Varanasi to his youthful stardom in his brother's dance troupe, from his intensive study of the sitar to his revival of India's national music scene. Shankar's musical influence spread across both genres and generations, and he developed close friendships with John Coltrane, Philip Glass, Yehudi Menuhin, George Harrison, and Benjamin Britten, among many others. For ninety-two years, Shankar lived an endlessly colorful and creative life, a life defined by musical, emotional, and spiritual quests-and his legacy lives on. Benefiting from unprecedented access to Shankar's archives, and drawing on new interviews with over 130 subjects-including his second wife and both of his daughters, Norah Jones and Anoushka Shankar- Indian Sun gives readers unparalleled insight into a man who transformed modern music as we know it today.Binding Type: Hardcover

Basic, Profound, and Thorough
Format: Paperback
I'm a deliverance minister and walk people through forgiveness exercises on a regular basis because of the spiritual freedom that comes with forgiveness. This book is basic but very thorough and covers all the high-level points on the importance of forgiveness without getting into the weeds. Book is thin; not overwhelming to non-readers.

Excellent book!
This is the best book on forgiveness that I’ve ever read. Only read this if you are serious about working through unforgiveness and bitterness. I learned that it is okay to have boundaries and limitations, but first you must forgive.

Buy more than one! Shareable!
Format: Paperback
This is a small book and a quick read, but don’t let that fool you. It’s packed with truths that will encourage the reader to forgive those that have wronged them. This book was required reading for a class I took. After reading it, I decided to buy several copies to give to friends.
What you’ll learn: When someone offends us we often feel we have a right to an apology, and perhaps we do. We might even want revenge. But what we don’t realize is that unforgiveness only hurts the one offended. It’s like filling a cup with poison for your offender and then drinking it yourself. You become poisoned by your own hurt, anger, thoughts or words against that person. When we refuse to forgive, we become enslaved to bitterness, and bitterness can take root in our mind, spirit, and body. We become sick.
When we forgive, we release the offender from blame, or forgive their debt to us. We leave the situation (or revenge) in God’s hands, and we move on. The result is freedom!
“For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your Heavenly Father will also forgive you.” Matthew 6:14
